White Sox lose, Romo retires and Rose injured, again

Bad weather? Check. Small crowd? Check. Opening day home loss? Check. All the components were in place for a disappointing White Sox loss. The Detroit Tigers, behind Justin Verlander, defeated the the Sox by a final of 6-3. The Tigers scored all their runs on three homers off Sox ace Jose “Monitor my trade value” Quintana.

After the Sox got off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Melky Cabrera double. The Tigers responded with a three run homer by JaCoby Jones and a two run shot by Nick Castellanous in the top of the second. Ian Kinsler added a solo home run in the 4th.

There's some good news for the Sox, but it's not Wednesday's starter

The Sox have obvious holes in center field, right field and behind the plate. Having said that, it's good to see Melky Cabrera and Jose Abreu get off to a good start with two hits a piece. I also think Tyler Saladino will be an upgrade for the Sox at second. Saladino also had a couple of hits and scored the Sox first run. It's not all gloom and doom for the Sox. James Sheilds starts for the Sox tomorrow if that helps. You say it doesn't? I didn't think it would.

Romo retires and Cutler looks ready to cough

Tony Romo is retiring from the NFL to become the lead NFL analyst for CBS. Romo was drawing interest from several NFL teams before his career change. The Houston Texans and Denver Broncos were considered the favorites to land Romo. The big beneficiary of Romo's retirement could be Jay Cutler. While there's been little talk about Cutler in this NFL off season, Cutler would seen to be a fit for the Texans.  Plus, base on the picture of him his wife sent out, he's ready to take his physical.Hurt to the max

As you've probably heard by now, Derrick Rose is out for the rest of the season with a torn meniscus. I'm not going to make a joke about it, but this highlights why a team can't count on Rose as a building block. It should also wipe out any delusions Derrick may have had about getting a max contract.

Meanwhile, the other Knicks ex-Bull.....

The Knicks other exciting ex-Bulls acquisition, Joakim Noah, was already out for the season, serving a 20 game suspension for a positive drug test. The Knicks have three more years of Joakim. Enjoy.

More next time.
