Cubs wear threadbare Sox out, Cavs soap opera continues

The Cubs went into the All Star break 5 ½ games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. They are now 1 1/5 games ahead of them. Things have turned around in a hurry. Thursday night Jon Lester cruised to a 6-3 win over the White Sox. Lester went 7 innings allowing only solo home runs to Jose Abreu and Willy Garcia. Jose Abreu added a home run off Koji Uehara in the bottom of the 9th for the Sox third run.

Schwarber's turn

Kyle Schwarber carried the offense for the Cubs. Schwarber had 2 home runs and a triple and drove in four. Anthony Rizzo added two hits including a home run. The Cubs are getting contributions from a number of players now.

Lester's strong start has been a reoccurring theme in the Cubs resurgence. Wednesday night Jake Arrieta continued his strong work, going 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs in 6.2 innings. Their starters still haven't allowed a run in the first inning after the All Star break. Full speed ahead.

White Sox full of holes

As for the White Sox, I'm not sure they'll win 20 games the rest of the season. The Sox traded off another part Thursday, left reliever, Dan Jennings. While I'm not a huge fan of Jennings I'm not sure the Sox got a whole lot in return for him. Casey Gillaspie is coming to the White Sox. MLB Trade Rumors ran a report on him that said he's a switch hitter with power potential and who is at least an average defender at first. Maybe he'll surprise me.

Like love, rebuilding hurts. The Sox are going to be like an episode of Storage Wars the rest of this season. They'll be sorting through a lot of debris trying to find a few gems. For the rest of year, watch Yoan Moncada and whoever else the Sox bring up. Don't pay too much attention to the games themselves, you'll only get hurt.

Scheduling matters

Also, what the White Sox have become shows why it's better to play poor later in the season. Earlier in the season the Sox were competitive, now not so much. That will no doubt be true of other teams that are sellers.

No wonder pitching is scarce

In a somewhat overlooked story, the Tampa Bay Rays are actually buyers this season. After picking up Jennings, the Rays traded a prospect for Lucas Duda. That also impacted teams that thought the Rays might sell of some of their pitching. That's not happening now.

Who wants to play with LeBron?

In today's episode of As The Cavs Turn, Kyrie has unfollowed LeBron on Twitter and says he wants to play for the Knicks. Boy, Kyrie really doesn't care about wining a ring. Will LeBron and Kyrie get back together? Will anybody play with Lebron? Does Kristeps Porzingas want Kyrie to play for the Knicks? Can Carmelo make it to Cleveland? Will anybody call Dwade? Tune in tomorrow for the next episode of, As the Cave Turn.

More next time.
