John Fox's type of guy. |
After seven weeks of this NFL season here are some things
that have stood out. John Fox is a great
defensive coach. Last Sunday he shut
down the Panthers Cam Newton and his own quarterback, Mitch Trubisky. The Bears threw seven passes last
Sunday. Even the old Ohio State coach,
Woody Hayes, would tell Fox to put the ball in the air more. I’m not sure Fox is aware that you can throw
the ball on first and second down.
Why the Bears should pick up the Pace
The Bears defense really has picked up the pace. There are sacks, turnovers and big hits. All
the things associated with an excellent defense. While I would like to see Fox go, I’d like
defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio to stay.
I’ve been on the fence about Bears gm, Ryan Pace, but now I think I want
him to stay.
Mitch Trubisky looks like a guy who will be a good qb in
the NFL for years to come looks The Bears finally have the right guy going
forward. The signing of Mike Glennon was
a huge mistake, but at least Pace finally filled the hole at the most important
position in the game. It would have been
nice if he hadn’t used so many assets to do it, but at least it got done.
Eddie Jackson also has made an impact at safety. The Bears have tried one guy after another at
free safety will poor results. Eddie
Jackson looks to be a long term answer going forward. So, it appears Pace has plugged two of the
Bears most long standing needs, quarterback and free safety. He gets bonus points for adding running back Tarik
Cohen. Tight end, Adam Sheehan, was also
part of the Bears 2017 draft and is slowly seeing more playing time. Next on the shopping list, receivers.
A tale of two other quarterbacks
Cam Newton is one of the more puzzling players in the
NFL. I’m amazed at how a league MVP can
lay so many eggs. It seems like a run
oriented quarterback has trouble establishing consistency in the NFL. Newton just isn’t that great of a passer.
A guy who can really throw the ball is the Philadelphia
Eagles Carson Wentz. Wentz threw for
four touchdowns in the Eagles 34-24 win over the Redskins Monday night. The stats don’t tell the whole story. Wentz looked in total control of the Eagles offense. His combination of passing ability, mobility
and poise make him one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL right now.
And one dismal franchise
How can the Cleveland Browns continue to be so bad for so
long? They keep passing over guys like
Carson Wentz. Of course, if the Browns
had picked him, he’d probably be Carson Wince.
More next time.
As a KState fan we knew how good he was when he lead North Dakota State on a 4h Quarter drive to win the game in Manhattan KS. K-State had a decent team that year with Lockett and Jake Waters who threw for 2500 yards. Many missed on Wentz and many missed on Lockett as well.
