Going into week five of the NFL season, my fantasy team
sits at 3-1. That’s mostly because of my
great fantasy defense. Not the defenses
I’ve chosen, it’s just three of the teams I’ve matched up with chose more
poorly than me. Out of a 14 team league,
I’m seventh in total points scored, but my opponents have scored the second least
points of any opposition in the league.
I hope that trend continues.
Not loving the Drake
My two primary running backs have been Kenyan Drake and
Royce Freeman. I haven’t been loving the
Drake. He’s been one of the most disappointing RBs in the NFL this season. With Tarik Cohen being on a bye week, I have
few options but to start Drake and hope for the best. Maybe the Bengals defense will reinvigorate
him.
Royce Freeman hasn’t been terrible but he’s splitting
time with Phillip Lindsey. Lindsey has
more total yards from scrimmage but Freeman has scored three TDs to augment his
fantasy value.
I wish the Browns running game was Chubbier
I‘ve got Nick Chubb on my bench, but Carlos Hyde is
taking most of the carries on the Browns.
Maybe the Browns could trade Chubb or Hyde to the Dolphins. I’d don’t care which one as long as Chubb
gets more carries.
Regrets, I've had a few
Last week I picked up and, I’m ashamed to admit, started
Chris Ivory. One point later I waived
him. This week I waived Browns TE, David
Njoko. Njoko isn’t a bad flex option, but
I already have Trey Burton and Jared Cook.
Cook has been a pleasant surprise.
After waiving Njoko I picked up another RB, the Seahawks Mike
Davis. After having a 28 fantasy points
day, Davis figures to be back to the bench with the return of Chris
Carson. That’s why I was able to pick
him up. It would be nice to be able to
find a running back that was getting some touches.
It's good to receive...
My receivers have been consistent and a strength of my team. I like DeAndre Hopkins against the Cowboys
defense as well as the Devante Adams vs. Lions defense matchup. I also picked up Pierre Garcon of the 49ers
on waivers. I’m starting him against the
Cardinals. That’s based more on a lack
of options than confidence.
But better to pass
The best thing I’ve had going for me so far this fantasy
season is Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has a
tough matchup against the Jaguars this Sunday, but after his Monday night
performance against the Broncos, I think he’s up to it. The option is Russell Wilson against the
Rams. Mahomes is the easy choice.
Come on Texans pass rush
Like a major league manger without a closer, I’m mixing
and matching fantasy defenses. This week
I’ve got the Texans defense against the Cowboys. I just don’t think the Cowboys offense can
exploit the Texans weak pass defense. I
also think Ezekiel Elliott could have his hands full with the Texans defensive
front.
What's a synonym for ehhh?
My kicker continues to be the Lions Matt Prater. He’s generally consistent, if not
spectacular. Hopefully that will be
enough this week, but my opponent’s QB, Tom Brady has already put up 33 fantasy
points Thursday. Sunday could be a heavy
lift for my guys.
