Why the Cubs let Chilli Davis go and other comedic takes from the week in sports

There are lots of things going on in the NFL and MLB, some on the field, some off.  We’ll start in MLB by talking about a guy’s name.  I know it’s cheap, but I not a real high brow guy.

The name is the thing

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for a manager, and one candidate seems to be Cardinals AAA manager, Stubby Clapp.  You can write your own joke, but mine is, “Stubby Clapp has been named name most fans are afraid to goggle.”

If you ain't cheatin you ain't trying

In another story involving a MLB managerial search, the Angels are giving their managerial candidates a written test.  I glad they’re not giving a test on baseball’s non-written rules.  Or maybe that test is oral.

Cubs hitters didn't digest Chill's process

A batting coach was given his walking papers.  The Cubs have parted ways with Chilli Davis.  Apparently this Chilli didn’t agree with Theo Epstein.  The even bigger problem was Chilli didn’t give the Cubs the runs.

Was Luis generous?

The Yankees think Luis Severino may have been tipping his pitches when he faced the Red Sox in the playoffs.  Probably because the Sox were hitting them 20% harder than usual.

Joe and Angel are making their mark in the playoffs

In another playoff note, Joe West was the second base umpire in game one of the ALCS series and was hit by a throw from Red Sox catcher, Christian Vazquez.  While Joe may not have catlike reflexes, he didn’t flinch when hit.  Or if he did it was 20 minutes later when the camera was off him.  Maybe Joe can write a country western song about it.  In addition, maybe Joe’s experience will detract attention from Angel Hernandez’s recent playoff performance when he missed three calls in four innings.  Only the best umps work the playoffs.

Describe the Raiders' season

The Raiders continue their losing ways.  Sunday it was a 27-3 loss to the Seahawks in London.  Raiders QB, Derek Carr was sacked six times.  The Raiders season might be a train wreck just yet, but it does seem to be a Carr wreck.

Connor can't throw but....

Connor McGregor made an appearance at the Cowboys game Sunday.  He even threw a football, though it’s not politically correct to say, he throws like a girl.  Of course, who’s going to tell him?  While McGregor might not be able to throw a football, his police record may be enough to interest the Cowboys in signing him to a contract.

Some things in the NFL don't change

And finally, the Bengals suffered another heartbreaking loss to the Steelers Sunday.  While the Bengals were doing what they do, lose to the Steelers, LB, Vontaze Burfict, was doing what he does.  Namely stuff that’s illegal.  Burfict swung an elbow at Steelers WR, Antonio Brown’s head.  While other players do stuff like that, it seems when it comes to cheap shots, nobody is Burfict.
