NFL transactions impact fantasy values

The Bears trading Jordan Howard to the Eagles is one of a number transactions involving big name players.  While the NFL season is still months away, it’s not too early to think about how transactions have affected players fantasy football value.  Here’s a look at some of the headliners.

Square peg, round hole Division

Jordan Howard’s fantasy value has gone up with his relocation.  Howard’s numbers declined during the 2018 season.  Even in a down year, Howard rushed for 935 yards and nine TDs.  I look at Jordan as a mid-round draft choice and a possibility as a second back or flex position selection. Howard was a good player in Chicago, but when the offense changed, he was a square peg in a round hole.  He’ll fit better in Philadelphia.

Prior to trading Jordan Howard, the Bears signed Mike Davis as a free agent.  Davis gained 514 rushing yards with the Seahawks last season and accounted for four rushing TDs and one receiving score.  Davis should be a better fit for the Bears offense than Howard was.  His fantasy value should be about the same as Howard’s.

Big contract, small numbers division

The Broncos traded for Joe Flacco, and I’m still not sure why.  He wasn’t a big fantasy point producer in Baltimore and won’t be in Denver.  He’s basically about a half step ahead of Case Keenum, but a lot more expensive.

Connor McGregor  look alike Division

One QB who did enhance his fantasy value is Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Ryan should get more playing time in Miami than he did in Tampa and has put some huge fantasy numbers, though interceptions have always been a problem for Ryan.  He looks to be a mid to late round choice in this year’s draft.

Terrell Owens throw your QB under the bus Division

After going all Terrell Owens and throwing his QB under the bus, Odell Beckham finds himself in Cleveland.  He does have an upgrade in QB, going from an aging Eli Manning to a young up and coming Baker Mayfield.  He might not see the ball quite has much, however, as the Browns have an abundance of weapons.  OBJ still looks like an early to early-middle first round choice.

A high profile receiver I’m not as high on is Antonio Brown.  If Antonio had issues in Pittsburgh, I don’t see things getting better with the Raiders.  A team with Brown, Vontaze Burflict and Marshawn Lynch should be interesting to watch.  Anybody else wonder what Jon Gruden is doing?

Why do the Browns hate Nick Chubb Division

In addition to picking up Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns also signed Kareem Hunt.  Hunt will be serving an eight game suspension at the start of the 2019 season, but might be worth stashing with a late round draft choice.  While Hunt may be a nice depth pick, it lowers the value of Nick Chubb.  Actually, the acquisition of Hunt seems to be part of an ongoing conspiracy to lower Chubb’s fantasy value.  Chubb is a great, back.  Get him more touches.
