White Sox win brings on a case of the what could have beens

After stinking things up at home, the White Sox took their show on the road to New York, and the results were surprisingly encouraging.  Sunday’s Sox 5-2 win over the Yankees meant the Sox won the three game series.  Tim Anderson keyed the win with a grand slam and Carlos Rodon gave the Sox a strong six innings.

A nice start

Rodon gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in his six innings of work.  He struck out five in evening his record at 2-2.  His ERA sits at 3.27.  In Friday night’s win over the Yankees rain provided the relief in the 9-6 Sox win.  Sunday the Sox had to rely on their bullpen.  It proved to be okay.

Bullpen was as right as rain

Jace Fry and Nate Jones worked a scoreless eighth seventh while Kelvin Herrera and Alex Colome worked the final two frames.  Colome picked up his third save.  The Sox have the makings of a good backend of the bullpen.  I hope they don’t trade it off for a bag of magic beans at the trade deadline.

The new Chris Davis

Yoan Moncada had three more hits, including a double to continue his hot start.  His batting average currently sits at .328.  Meanwhile Dan Palka continues hitless while Ryan Cordell remains in Charlotte and ponders the inequities of life.

It could have been the White Sox

If you’re wondering if it’s possible for a young team to get off to a hot start, look no further than the San Diego Padres.  Even with Sunday’s loss, the Padres have a record of 11-6.  It’s amazing what can happen if you have young talent and spent more to bring in more talent.

Fernando Tatis Jr, socked his fourth home run for thePadres Sunday.  That name sounds familiar.  Didn’t the White Sox used to have a prospect with that name?  By the way, does anybody know where James Shields is?  Manny Machado is currently hitting .246 but has four home runs and a WAR of 0.9.  To put that in perspective, as I write this, Tim Anderson has been red hot and has a WAR of 0.7.

How long do you keep them down on the farm?

If Sox fans want some good news from the farm, there is some to be had.  I’m not an expert on the Sox farm system, but a quick look shows Luis Robert hitting nearly .500 with power.  Of perhaps more immediate concern, Dylan Cease has won his first two starts in AAA Charlotte and hasn’t given up a run in 10 innings.

While we wait for Cease we can enjoy the stylings of Ervin Santana in his second start Monday against the Royals.
