1. John
Cappeletti. After his career at Penn State, John went on to have a solid nine
year career in the NFL, playing for the Rams and Chargers.
2. Albie
Pearson. Albie had a couple of pretty
good seasons for the old Angels.
3. Lem
Barney and Dick LeBeau. When they were
together the Lions had perhaps the best corners in the NFL.
4. Ricky
Bell. Ricky had a decent career with the
Bucs, gaining 1273 yards on the ground in 1979, but all in all, Ricky wasn’t as
impactful as the Bucs had hoped. In
Ricky’s defense, he was in a terrible situation.
5. Roman
Gabriel and Ron Jaworski. The Eagles
eventually transitioned from Gabriel to Jaworski has their starting QB. Roman had a Pro Bowl year for the Eagles in
1973 while Jaws eventually helped get the Eagles to the Super Bowl XV.
6. Anthony
Davis. After his career at USC, Davis
signed with the WFL and then the CFL before reunited with his old USC coach,
John McKay, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ultimately, he played briefly for
two more NFL teams with limited success.
7. Greg
Landry. Greg spent 11 seasons with the
Lions, compiling a record of 40-41-3 as the starter. He was named to one Pro Bowl while in
Detroit.
8. Dick
Bass. Dick had two 1000+ rushing seasons
as well as three Pro Bowl selections during the 60s.
9. Ken
and Clete Boyer. While Ken, as the NL
MVP in 1964 had the higher profile, Clete had a nice 16 year career in MLB,
eight with the Yankees.
10. Jim
Fregosi. While Jim was an outstanding
player for the Angels, by the time he got to the Mets he was on the down side
of his career.
