Ten Thoughts about the NBA Offseason

A lot has happened in the NBA recently. The power centers of the NBA are centered on the West Coast and the Knicks still remain a joke.  It’s good to know there are still some things you can count on.  Here are my Top 10 Thoughts on this NBA Offseason.

1.     Kawhi Leonard is now one of the biggest movers and shakers in the NBA.  By leading the Raptors to a title Kawhi now has a lot of cloud in terms of NBA movement.  Leonard’s ability to get Paul George to join him in LA with the Clippers is evidence of that.  Kawhi may be the best player in the NBA right now.

2.     Unless the NBA allows two balls to be in play at one time, the Russell Westbrook – James Harden duo won’t work in Houston.  Westbrook and Harden are two of the biggest proponents of hero ball in the NBA.  That style doesn’t make for championships.

3.     The Knicks are still the biggest dumpster fire in the NBA. After trading Porzingas to the Dallas Mavericks to clear cap space, they struck out on the big names in free agency.  It seems like the idea of the Garden being a Mecca for NBA stars is over.

4.     The Nets made some bold moves but they may be no better off.  Sure they added Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving but Durant will probably miss most if not all of the 2019-20 season and Irving is more of a second banana than headliner.  In addition, who knows what Durant will be when he gets back?

5.     The Chicago Bulls did okay.  I’m definitely not a fan of GarPax, but adding Coby White in the draft and Thaddeus Young and Tomas Satoransky via free agency look like solid moves.  The Bulls are not championship material, but may be watchable this season.

6.     Boogie Cousins has fallen a long ways.  Boogie signed with the Lakers for one year at $3.5 million.  That’s a far cry from Boogie’s value pre-injury.

7.     Derrick Rose may be a decent rotation player at a reasonable price.  DRose isn’t what he used to be but last year was somewhat of rebound season for him.  For $ 15 million for two seasons, he may be useful for the Pistons.

8.     It looks like the Dallas Mavericks came out ahead in the Kristaps Porzingas.  In Porzingas the Mavs have a player with at least the potential to be a difference maker. That’s more than the Knicks can say.

9.     Tyson Chandler made a good choice in signing with the Rockets.  Tyson doesn’t need the ball to play his game.  In Houston that quality will come in handy.

10.  Stephen A Smith was reduced to tears over the Knicks ineptitude.  Actually, that may be the highlight of this NBA offseason.
