I Remember Them Sports Quiz 90




1. The Buffalo Braves made this 6’11” center out of Maryland the ninth overall pick of the 1974 NBA draft. He went on to play for a number of NBA teams in his 11 year NBA career. He later became the tallest man ever to serve in Congress. (4 points)

2. A QB and place kicker, this man played for a number of teams during his 26 year pro career. He finished up as the Raiders place kicker in 1975 at the age of 48. (3 points)

3. A punter out of Iowa, this man is most noted for his work with the Dolphins in the 80s. (2 points)

4. This power forward out of Oklahoma began his career in 1985 with the Pacers. Later he played for the Kings and Suns. He twice averaged over 20 ppg while with the Kings. (3 points)

5. A right -handed starting pitcher, this man began his major league career with the Dodgers in 1987. He managed to pitch for seven teams in his major league career. He won in double digits three times with the Dodgers and three times with the Royals. (4 points)

6. This inside linebacker out of Ohio State played fro the New York Giants from 1986-92. He was named All Pro in 1990. After his stay with the Giants, he went on to play with the Browns, Jets and Lions. (3 points)

7. After beginning his pro career with the Birmingham Barons of the WHL, this man began his NHL career with the Quebec Nordiques in 1979. After playing for the Nords, he was traded to the Blackhawks. He finished his NHL career with 548 goals. (4 points)

8. “Kong” hit 442 homers in his 16 year major league career. He led the NL in homers with both the Cubs and Mets. (2 points)

9. This great hitter spent his 19 year career with the Twins and Angels. He won seven batting titles along the way. (1 point)

10. This reliever closed for the Rangers, Blue Jays and Cardinals and finished with 311 saves. He led the AL in saves with 34 in 1987 while with the Blue Jays. (4 points)

1. Tom McMillen. Though Tom averaged only 8.1 ppg, he was very consistent in his 11 seasons in the NBA.

2. George Blanda. George became a folk hero during the last few seasons of his career.

3. Reggie Roby. At 6’3” and 249 pounds Reggie was a huge guy for a punter.

4. Wayman Tisdale. For his 12 year career in the NBA, Wayman averaged 15.3 ppg. He was never named to an all star team, but was just a cut below an all star for most of his career.

5. Tim Belcher. Despite bouncing around, Tim finished at 146-140 for his career.

6. Pepper Johnson. Pepper finished with 25.5 sacks and 14 interceptions for his career.

7. Michel Goulet. Michel was one of the best players in the NHL during the mid 80s.

8. Dave Kingman. Dave’s best season was with the Cubs in 1979. He hit.288 with 48 home runs and 115 RBIs that season.

9. Rod Carew. I wondered if Rod would have a relatively low WAR despite having a high batting average. He didn’t. His best WAR was 9.7 in 1977.

10. Tom Henke. In looking at Tom’s numbers, he was very consistent for a long period of time. That’s somewhat rare in a reliever.
