I Remember Them Sports Quiz 98





1. “Downtown” started his career with the Giants but had his best seasons with the Padres in 1969 and 1970 when he hit 20 and 23 home runs respectively. (4 points)

2. This offensive lineman’s NFL career spanned from 1970-81 with the Rams. He played his college ball at Michigan State and was named to the Pro Bowl from 1976-81 as a center. (4 points)

3. This right-hander’s career spanned from 1955-71. Most his time was spent with the Tigers and Phillies. He won over 100 games in both the American and National leagues. (2 points)

4. A tough guy defenseman with the Bruins in the 60s, he suffered a horrifying injury when he took a stick to the head in a preseason brawl before the 1969-70 season. He missed that season but returned for the 1970-71 season. (3 points)

5. After playing his college ball at UNLV, this guard began his NBA career in 1975 with the Phoenix Suns. He had an 11 year NBA career and averaged 13.3 ppg. His best season was with the Indiana Pacers in 1977-78 when he averaged 18.2 ppg. (4 points)

6. An excellent corner back, he played his college ball at Texas and then played or the Rams from 1985-91. He was named to the Pro Bowl from 1986-89. (3 points)

7. After coming out of that football factory, Nebraska-Kearney he played LG for the Jets from 1967-81. (4 points)

8. An excellent three point shooter, he went to college at Minnesota before beginning his NBA career with the Knicks in 1982. In nine seasons with the Knicks, he averaged 8.6 ppg. (3 points)

9. “One Dog”, first reached the majors in 1987 with the Cardinals. He led the AL in triples from 1991-94 as a member of the White Sox. ( 2points)

10. This running back out of Kansas began his NFL career with he Jets, but is best known for his work with the Redskins. (1 point)

1. Ollie Brown. Ollie ultimately spent 13 seasons in the majors with six different teams.

2. Rich Saul. Rich provided really good value for an eighth round draft pick.

3. Jim Bunning. Bunning won 20 games for the Tigers in 1957. He also won 19 games for the Phillies from 1964-66.

4. Ted Green. Ted finished his pro career with the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA.

5. Ricky Sobers. Ricky was one of a ton of guys who went on from UNLV to play in the NBA.

6. Jerry Gray. In seven seasons with the Rams, Jerry picked off 22 passes, eight in 1986 alone. He also recovered six fumbles as a Ram.

7. Randy Rassmussen. Randy was a 12th round pick who really panned out. He was also extremely durable.

8. Trent Tucker. After his time with the Knicks, Trent went on to play for the Bulls and Kings.

9. Lance Johnson. After his time with the White Sox, Lance went on to the Mets where he led the NL in triples with 21 in 1996.

10. John Riggins. John was named All Pro in 1983 when he led the NFL with 24 rushing TDs and 24 total TDs scored. He also led the NFL in rushing TDs with 14 in 1984.

I Remember Them Sports Quiz 51

1. A wonderful defensive center fielder, this man began his career with the Orioles in 1964. He later went on to play for the Yankees. In all, he won eight Gold Gloves. (2 points)

2. After playing his college ball in Houston, this TE played for the Denver Broncos in the 70s and early 80s. He was named to the Pro Bowl four times and All pro twice. (3 points)

3. An outstanding hitting pitcher, this man started his career with the Red Sox, but had his best season with the Tigers, going 22-11 in 1967. (3 points)

4. This guard of note career spanned the late 70s and 80s. He played for both the Lakers and Clippers. (2 points)

5. Though he couldn’t hit the side of a barn with his shot, this defenseman put up some great plus/minus marks with the Blackhawks. He led the NHL in penalty minutes during the 1969-70 and 1970-71 seasons. (4 points)

6. One of the greatest offensive tackles in the history of the NFL, this New York Giant began his career with the team in 1953 and it ran through 1965. He was named to nine Pro Bowls and six All Pro teams. (2 points)

7. This speedy WR began his career with the Steelers and finished up with the Redskins. He was named All Pro in 1969 while still with the Steelers. (3 points)

8. A longtime Vikings QB, this man’s pro career began in 1977 and extended through 1990. His last season was spent with the Saints. In all, he started 110 games for the Minnesota. (3 points)

9. A solid reliever, this sinker thrower began his career with the White Sox in 1965. In 4+ seasons with the Sox he went 28-22 with 48 saves and an ERA of 2.68. He also pitched for the A’s and Cubs, winning 10 games for the Cubs in 1973. (4 points)

10. This first baseman led the Seattle Mariners in home runs in their only year of existence. He also played for the Twins, A’s and Angles. In all, he played 13 seasons in the majors. (4 points)

1. Paul Blair. Paul had a few decent seasons with the bat, but his production diminished after he was beaned.

2. Riley Odoms. The NFL had a few of these big physical TEs who could also catch some passes during the 70s and 80s.

3. Earl Wilson. Earl hit .195 for his career with 35 homers, including two as a pinch hitter.

4. Norm Nixon. Norm played for some of the Showtime Lakers teams and is also married to Debbie Allen. Norm has achieved some Fame.

5. Keith Magnuson. Keith’s popularity to goals scored ratio was one of the best in Blackhawks history.

6. Rosey Brown. Guys like Rosey made the Giants immensely popular in the 50s and early 60s.

7. Roy Jefferson. Unfortunately for Roy, he was out of Pittsburgh before the Steelers glory days.

8. Tommy Kramer. I think the term “average” seems to apply in Tommy’s case.

9. Bob Locker. Bob performed well for both the White Sox and Cubs, as well as the A’s.

10. Don Mincher. Don had five 20+ home run seasons for a variety of teams.
