Diary of a Chicago Sports Fan

Parade Day for the NFL and the Bulls experience a Boogie night

Today was Parade Day for the NFL.  There was the Patriots Victory Parade, the Anti-Roger Goodell Parade, and the parade of Falcons coaches leaving Atlanta for other coaching jobs.  Offensive coordinator, Kyle “What’s a Run” Shanahan is leaving the Falcons to become the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.  Falcons quarterback coach, Matt Lafleur, joined Shanahan in leaving the scene of the crime.  He’ll be the LA Rams new offensive coordinator.

The anti-Goodell parade was predictable, but maybe Patriot fans should think Goodell.  Maybe that four game suspense made Tom Brady extra sharp and focused for the rest of the season.  Nobody is buying that are they? Especially in Boston.

Where's Walker when you need him?

As a footnote to the game, afterwards Tom Brady’s game jersey came up missing.  Texas Rangers have been called into the search.  Maybe they can also look for the Falcons defense. It went missing after the third quarter.

Choose your Bears poison

In the aftermath of the Patriots Super Bowl win, backup quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo is the subject of trade rumors.  CBS Sports puts the Bears as the favorite to pick him up.  As a Bears fan, I don’t know what scares me more, the memory of former Patriots backup quarterback, Matt Cassel, or the memory of recent Bears first round draft choice, Kevin White.  Somehow I’m afraid that whatever move the Bears make will be the wrong one.

A win is a win

In Chicago basketball news, the Bulls defeated the Sacramento Kings Monday night, 112-107.  Dwayne Wade led the way for the Bulls with 31 points.  Michael Carter-Williams continued his strong play with a line of 21-6-4.  The Bulls were played without Jimmy Butler, who again was out with a bruised heel.

On and off the court

While the Bulls got the win, the Kings made more headlines.  The Kings Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins, apparently thinking they were still in a New York night club, got involved in an altercation with the Bulls Taj Gibson and assistant coach Jim Boylen.  Boogie was promptly hit with a technical foul, his 15th of the season.  Not content with that, Cousins drew his 16 technical foul with 1 second left in the game, thus earning a one game suspension.  On the bright side, it was the second time in the last few days that Cousins teamed up with an assist to Barnes.  The Kings are nothing if not a close knit team.

Strategery  (Yea, I Know)

One other thing that stuck me about Cousins game, he took 15 shots from the field.  Nine of them were from beyond the arc.  The Kings deploy their talent in strange ways.

More next time.
