Bulls and Sox win, and was the Mighty Oak acting like a nut?

The Bulls clinched a playoff spot with a convincing 112-73 win over the New Jersey Nets. As would be expected, Jimmy Buler led the Bulls in scoring with 25. What was unexpected was Paul Zipser adding 21, fueled by a 5-7 night from beyond the arc.

The win means the Bulls will face the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA the playoffs. As down as I have been on the Bulls, I don't think it's impossible for them to make a series out of it with the Celtics. I think the Bulls will lose, but maybe not get embarrassed.

Yes, it matters

The White Sox continue their early season pattern of good pitching and limited hitting. The Sox hung on to for a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Indians. Matt Davidson continues his hot start, driving in both Sox runs with a single in the second. Free agent signee, Derek Holland had another strong start, going 6 scoreless innings. Anthony Swarzak pitched a scoreless 7th and Nate Jones was nicked for a run in the 8th. David Robertson came in and pitched a clean 9th inning, striking out 2. The win raised the Sox record to 3-4.

The Sox early season is more important for them than most teams. If they get off to a decent start I'm still not sure they'll move Quintana. There is potential help on the farm in the Sox can avoid getting blown out of playoff contention early in the season. The Sox could be sneaky good this season.

Let's go to the tape

Charles Oakley has been arraigned on an assault charge based on an incident in Madison Square Garden between Oakley and Knicks owner, James Dolan. I saw Oakley on ESPN and Oak basically said he was minding his own business and eight guys showed up for no reason and escorted him out of the Garden. I'm not a Dolan fan, but I have a hard time agreeing with Oak on this.

Romo a no go

Tony Romo suited up for the Dallas Mavericks game against the Denver Nuggets Tuesday but NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, wouldn't let him play. I've heard some thought if Romo had played it would have been a travesty. The league would do well to look at the NBA All Star game before they're worried about Tony Romo playing being a travesty.

To be continued

As I'm writing this, it's about time for this blog to go to press, or, in other words, it's late and I'm sleepy. The Cubs are losing 1-0 of the 8th. More on this tomorrow.

More next time.
