Opportunity knocks, Bulls snooze, Cubs lose battle of oldies and White Sox score and win
As I
expected/feared, the Boston Celtics came back and evened their series
with the Bulls at 2-2 with 104-95 win over the Bulls Sunday evening.
Isaiah Thomas looked like The Road Runner being pursued by 5 Wile E
Coyotes in Bulls uniforms. Thomas finished with 33 points and 7
assists.
Jimmy
Butler tried to match Thomas' performance but his line of 33-5-9
wasn't enough. Butler went 19-23 from the line. Out of necessity,
Butler has become the Bulls primary play maker. Michael
Carter-Williams and Gerian Grant haven't brought anything to the
table after Rajon Rondo's injury.
Forget Joe DiMaggio, where has Dwyane Wade gone?
Isaiah
“Loose” Cannon did contribute 13 points and 3 assists in 34
minutes. Look for him to continue to get more playing time in game
5. Dwyane Wade has clearly gone from leading man to character actor
in movie parlance. Wade scored only 11 points in 37 minutes. He
also got to the foul line only once. It's not 2006.
And
somewhere Pat Riley is happy he didn't give D Wade a max contract.
Sweatin with the oldies
Reds
singer/song writer/starter, Bronson Arroyo slowed down the Cubs
offense as the Cincinnati Reds salvaged the final game of their three
game series with the Cubs by a score of 7-5. The Cubs countered with
their old guy starter, John Lackey. Lackey went 6 innings, giving up
7 runs, 5 of which were earned. The loss leaved Lackey with a record
1-3 and an ERA of 4.88. That seems a little high for the way Lackey
has pitched but not that high. Lackey no longer has a huge margin of
error. Or margin for errors behind him.
Anthony
Rizzo had the big blow for the Cubs, a 2 run homer. Jason Heyward
had a hit and 2 RBIs, but it wasn't enough.
So this is offense..
The
White Sox put together a little offense for a change and it resulted
in a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. The Sox got 3 runs off
Indians starter, Danny Salazar and it provided the impetus for the
win.
Derek
Holland gave the Sox a strong start, going 6 innings and giving up
only 1 earned run. Jose Abreu had 2 hits and Melky Cabrera had 2
RBIs to lead the offense. Avisail Garcia also doubled in a run.
Nate Jones and Tommy Kahnle each pitched a scoreless inning, while
David Robertson gave up 1 run in the 9th. To account for
the final of 6-2. The win raises the the White Sox record to 8-9.
All in all, not a bad start for the Sox.
More
next time.
