Kyle Hendricks is back, the White Sox looking good, and a Bulls PG who wants to play |
After
pounding the ball for the last week or so, the Cubs were limited to
one run by the Pirates and their ace, Gerrit Cole. Fortunately for
the Cubs, Kyle Hendricks and the Cubs bullpen made that one run stand
up. Addison Russell scored the only run of the game. Russell
doubled in the second and later scored on an error by Bucs second
baseman, Alex Hanson.
Welcome back Kyle
Hendricks
went 6 innings and was followed by Koji Uehara, Hector Rondon and
Wade Davis who all pitched a scoreless inning. Earlier in the
season, the Cubs weren't hitting on all cylinders. Now, if the
hitting isn't there, the pitching is picking them up. The sputtering
appears to be over.
I'm not sure how they're doing it, but I like it
As I'm
writing this, the White Sox are up on the Royals 6-2 in the middle of
the 7th inning. Sox starter, Dylan Covey went 4 innings
and gave up 2 runs. The Sox pummeled Royals starter, Danny Duffy for
6 runs on 9 hits in 4.2 innings. Leury Garcia started in center
field and had 2 hits and had driven in 2 runs. Even Todd Frazier's
bat broke its sabbatical and had a double and 2 RBIs. Going into the
night, the Royals were 7-12.
Royals getting crowned
The
Royals have had trouble scoring this season. Alex Gordon was hitting
under .200 going into tonight's game after hitting .217. No doubt
there are some MLB teams that are glad they didn't sign Alex when he
was a free agent. In addition, Jorge Soler, obtained from the Cubs
in an effort to boost the Royals offense, is on an injury rehab stint
in Omaha. That might sum up Jorge's career.
I would rather the Bears trade with the Browns than the Pats
According
to CBS Sports, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly talking about
trading up in the draft with three of the top 8 drafting teams. If
the Bears are looking at trading down, this looks like an
opportunity. I doubt the Bears will take a quarterback with the
number three daft pick after signing Mike Glennon as a free agent.
The Bears could use a safety and they could well get one with
Cleveland's 12th overall pick. Whatever else the Bears
could pick up would be gravy.
But has he talked to his body?
It's
reported that Bulls point guard, Rajon Rondo, will try to play in
game five of the Bulls playoff series against the Celtics. I don't
know if Rondo can play or not, or even if he does play how good he
will be, but I appreciate his effort. After years of Derrick Rose
listening to his body it's nice to see a Bulls point guard make an
extra effort to play in the playoffs. In Chicago, that's been a
foreign concept.
More
next time.
