After
putting together a five game winning streak, the Cubs have given most
of it back with a four game losing streak. Saturday's 8-6 loss to
the Cardinals in 10 innings was particularly galling. The Cubs
managed to put a few hits together in the second inning to go up 4-0,
but Tyler Chatwood treated a four run lead with all the care a
politician gives to the truth.
Walk this way
Chatwood
walked the first two hitters in Cardinals fourth, then hit a guy to
load the bases. The Cubs managed a couple of Cubs miscues after that
and just like that, the Cardinals put up a four spot themselves.
Kyle Schwarber wasn't charged with an error on a ball that should
have been put away with relative ease. I appreciate Kyle's effort in
losing 30 pounds, but he's still a big liability in the field.
After
the Cardinals tied the game at four, Javy Baez and Anthony Rizzo
homered to put the Cubs up 6-4 going into the bottom of the ninth.
Brandon Morrow coughed up that lead after starting the inning with a
leadoff walk.
The corn stalks are in bloom
The
Cardinals won in the game in the bottom of the tenth when Kolten Wong
homered off Luke Ferrell. Farrell had walked the leadoff hitter in
the inning. I understand Des Moines is nice this time of year.
Nothing to see here
The
White Sox continue to flounder. On of the few reasons to watch the
Sox is to follow the growth of Yoan Moncada. Moncada is tweaking his
hamstring on a regular basis. I hope this isn't Jorge Soler 2.0.
Lucas Giolito seems to be settling in a bit and Reynaldo Lopez is
also somebody worth watching. Other than that, it's going to be a
long year for Sox fans.
And in Icky news... (Not Icky Woods)
In other
sports news of note, the Tampa Bay Lightning are up 3-1 in their
series against the Boston Bruins. A side story involved Brad
Marchand licking the Lightning's Ryan Callahan. Basically, the
Lightning took a licking but still beat the Bruins. Hey Bruins, you
guys might want to stage an intervention. Marchand should be an
embarrassment to you.
Sounds painful
Mets
outfielder, Yoenis Cespedes had a strange moment recently. He slid
into second and broke his diamond necklace. He was really upset. After all, he broke his jewels.
Maybe some day Chris Dunn can be Rajon Rondo
The
Philadelphia 76ers are down 3-0 in their series against the Celtics.
It looks like the Sixers are still a year away from being a force.
Meanwhile, former Bull, Rajon Rondo looks like one of the most
valuable players in the NBA playoffs. The New Orleans Pelicans, aka
Bulls South are a nice team.
