After the first week of NFL action, my fantasy team is
1-0. Having said that, I was fortunate
to get a win. The final score was
94-81. Going into the Lions-Jets game I
was up 82-72. I had the Lions defense
and their kicker. My opponent had Matt Stafford. My Lions played poorly, but Matt Stafford was
worse. Everybody hates the Lions this
week.
The thinking behind the picture
Going into the season I figured my primary receivers,
DeAndre Hopkins and Devante Adams would have to do the heavy work, and they
did. Look for more of the same in week
two. Devante Adams’ scoring could well
be tied to the health of Aaron Rodgers.
Still, if DeShone Kiser gets the start, Adams could still get some
targets. As a Bears fan I got some grief
for picking a Packer on my fantasy team.
To me it’s like therapy. I
figured Aaron Rodgers could very well break my heart so I figured at least it
could help my fantasy team. We all deal
with grief differently.
Looking for a workhorse
Neither of my RBs, Kenyan Drake and Royce Freeman has
established himself as dominant in getting touches on their respective teams.
In scanning the waiver wire, I put in a claim of Marshawn Lynch. Lynch looks like he could get some carries as
well as some goal line work for the Raiders.
I should have started Mahomes last week
I expect I’ll make some changes in my lineup this
week. Patrick Mahomes looked great
against the Chargers in the first week of the season. I think I’ll go with him this week against
the Steelers. The alternative is Russell
Wilson against the Bears. I expect the
Bears to be loaded for bear, or at least Seahawk this week.
In the wreckage of the Raiders..
I had Trey Burton at the flex position last week. He put up two points for me. I have Jared Cook on the bench. Cook was one of the few Raiders to have a
good game against the Rams. Cook will
get the start against the Broncos this week.
If he can get 27 fantasy points again this week, that would be great.
The Tarik issue
Tarik Cohen manned the RB/WR slot for me and was good for
6 points. That’s not enough.. Jordan Howard got a lot of third down action
against the Packers which is a disturbing trend for those of us who have Tarik Cohen
on out fantasy teams. I’ll have to give
this position a think.
The Purge, Detroit version
In an effort to purge my roster of Lions, I’ll be looking
at the waiver wire for a news defense and kicker.
Fitzpatrick's arm upstages his beard, at least for a week
In other fantasy football news, did anybody have Ryan
Fitzpatrick in week one? Fitzpatrick
rang up 49 fantasy points to lead the NFL overall last week. Saints RB, Alvin
Kamara was second with 42 points and
Tyreek Hill was third with 41. Of those
three, I think it’s safe to say that Fitzpatrick would be voted least likely to
repeat his performance. Fitzpatrick does
lead the league in beard points, however.
LeVeon who?
Twelve RBs put up 20 or more points in week one. Seven of those RBs caught five passes or
more. I need to consider one of those
type of backs. I’ll see if I can snag
Jalen Richard. Adrian Peterson had a
surprisingly good debut with the Redskins, piling up 22 points. From a fantasy point of view, James Conner
filled in admirably for the Steelers LeVeon Bell. Conner notched 33 fantasy points.
Zeke and Gronk could be a problem
The guys I’m concerned about on my opponents team this
week are Ezeikiel Elliott and Ron Gronkowski.
They are the headliners on a team racked with injuries. I hope my depth will prevail.
