1. Mike
Epstein. A power hitting lefty, but a
poor fielder, Mike blossomed as a hitter under the guidance of Ted
Williams. He was also a member of some
of those great Oakland A’s teams.
2. John
Odom. Odom had some big years, but was
later plagued by control problems.
3. George
Wilson. George was the head coach of the
Lions when they won their last championship.
His son, George Jr., obviously never made it big in the NFL.
4. Bill
Melton and Dick Allen. Melton might have
done more if he wasn’t plagued by back problems. Dick Allen was the most dominant player in
the AL for a couple years under manager, Chuck Tanner.
5. Artis
Gilmore. Artis was outstanding as a
member of the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls,
with Artis, came closer to derailing the Bill Walton and the Trailblazers during
the Blazers championship run than most people remember.
6. Bob Dandridge. In Milwaukee Bob was overshadowed by Kareem
Abdul –Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. He
was more noticeable in Washington.
7. George
Scott. George was the key man when the
Brewers put together a package to get Cecil Cooper.
8. Jim
Mitchell. Jim played for the Falcons
from 1969-79 and made two Pro Bowls. All
in all, a nice run. Junior Miller was a Pro Bowler in both the 1980 and 1981 seasons
for Atlanta.
9. Garo
Yepremian. Garo’s pass that was picked off by the Redskins Mike Bass for a TD
in Super Bowl VII is one of the most remembered plays in Super Bowl history.. The play is a staple for Super Bowl
bloopers reel.
10. Bobby
Hull. For my money, Bobby was the most
exciting player in Blackhawks history.
When he signed with the WHL it gave the league instant
respectability. It was also a
debilitating blow to the Blackhawks.
